Smiling Children

An initiative to save infant deaths and provide healthy nutrition to mother and child.

  • Infant deaths in India remain highest in the world last year at 800,000.
  • India is home to one-third of the world’s malnourished children.
  • 43% of children in India are underweight.
  • More than two-third of infants do not survive the first month of life.
  • An astounding 21% didn’t survive the first day of life.
  • One in every 5 seconds, around 6.3 million children under 15 years of age died in 2017
  • Approximately 5.4 million children die before reaching their fifth year of life, again highest in
    the world.
  • 90% of deaths are due to causes like pneumonia, malaria, and diarrhea which can be easily
    prevented.
  • Lack of access to water, sanitation, proper nutrition, and basic health services are other
    reasons.

Since 1990, India has made a remarkable progress to save child deaths but millions are still dying. Estimated 56 million children under five will die from now until 2030, half of them newborns. Simple solutions like medicines, proper nutrition to mother and child, clean water, electricity and vaccines can bring a change. AAS Ashram, along with partner organisations are working hard to bring this change. Camps are organised at various places to create awareness towards hygiene. Nutritional food is distributed to pregnant mothers and children. We believe that we can and should help to save infant deaths through our direct work.

Volunteers at AAS Ashram analyse the local situation to assess urgent health needs and existing gaps. We also work towards capacity building of community health workers on maternal & child health nutrition. In 2018, 15,000 children benefitted though our healthcare programmes We engage with the local community to educate them about the importance of maintain good personal health and hygiene. We also distribute relief supplies during emergency situations, simultaneously assisting in long term rehabilitation.

INR 500 can provide urgent medical care to a malnourished child. With INR 1500 you can gift a good health to a child in need.
Come… join hands…No child is born to die…
